Master composition table
All ten grades, every element, one table. It prints cleanly and it is the page most often shared around a purchase department — which is exactly what it is for.
Values are percentage by weight. A single figure is a maximum limit; a range shows minimum and maximum.

C Carbon
Sets hardenability and strength; low carbon welds and forms best.
Mn Manganese
Raises hardenability; binds sulphur as manganese sulphide.
S Sulphur
An impurity in most steels, a deliberate addition in free cutting grades.
Cr Chromium
Raises hardenability depth — why case hardening grades are alloyed.
Chemical composition and mechanical properties shown are as per the applicable standard and are indicative. Actual values for your consignment are certified in the Mill Test Certificate supplied with each dispatch. Available sizes and tolerances are confirmed at the time of enquiry.
