Medium carbon strength with free cutting machinability — the best of both families. EN8M answers a common shop floor problem: the part needs medium carbon strength, but it also needs a lot of turning, and plain EN8 is slow to machine.

Also known as: 212M44 · AISI 1144

Key advantage

About one-third faster to machine than EN8

Added sulphur breaks the chip and lubricates the cut, so spindle speeds go up and tool changes go down while tensile strength stays in the EN8 class. On a high-volume turned shaft or stud, that is the difference between meeting the schedule and missing it.

Important: Chemical composition and mechanical properties shown are as per the applicable standard and are indicative. Actual values for your consignment are certified in the Mill Test Certificate supplied with each dispatch. Available sizes and tolerances are confirmed at the time of enquiry. Every bundle carries its heat number on a QR tag, and the heat number is printed on the delivery challan.
